Phil 111 Ancient and Medieval Philosophy (4 Credits)

Description:

  1. The study of ancient western philosophy through discussion of the basic works of Plato, and the relation of his thought to that of Aristotle, as well as the main currents of Hellenistic philosophy: Epicureanism, Stoicism, Scepticism and Neoplatonism.

  2. The study of patristic and scholastic philosophy through concentration on the two giants of this period, St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. Supplementary lectures will cover the critical problem of "Christian Philosophy" as well as some other major representatives of this philosophy.
