LD10 Space of Creativity in Theology (2 credits)

Description:

Theology often reminds people of shelves of classics, heaps of masterpieces, sets of theories, and piles of serious documentation. Theology appears to be well connected with sets of 'the established'. Then, do theologians enjoy freedom in creativity? Where lies the inventiveness in theological research? The course intends to explore spaces of creativity in theology, leading the participants to investigate the possibility of an alternative - a theology of the 'Spirit'. The alternative will be examined from various perspectives including aesthetics, literature, semiotics, performing arts, and cinema. Admittedly, these will serve as a medium and paradigm that lead to appropriate expressions and experiences of the Holy Spirit in the history of salvation. Meanwhile, it will propose ways for 'faith in pursuit of love', hopefully, it will also lead to the development of a more spirit-oriented methodology in theological studies. The lecturers will explore an attempted dialogue between theology and alternatives studies, including 'A Theology of the Spirit', 'The Spirit & Aesthetics', 'Space of AV culture', 'Space of interpretation', 'Space of creativity', 'Space of virtuality', etc.'

Note:

This is a one-year course.  Participants are expected to take part in two seminars (resident, 3-5 october 2003 and 30 April - 02 May 2004; lectures (Saturday afternoons); tutorials; and to complete a term-paper or term-project.
