Diploma in Theology

Goals:

  1. The Diploma programme offers a systematic treatment of Catholic doctrine that draws from the Church's authentic interpretation of Revelation offered in its living Magisterium. It aims to provide a basic, fundamental and comprehensive theological training to the common laity.
  2. To promote theology and help students to appreciate the intrinsic relation between theology and religious life, so as to illuminate them on life and faith issues.
  3. To strengthen the faith of the students, enabling them to live a solid spiritual life, commit to the tasks of evangelization and fulfill their mission effectively.
  4. To help preparing candidates for the many diverse lay ministries and services to the Church.

Academic Year:

  1. The academic year lasts from September to early-July.
  2. 10 subjects will be run for each year.
  3. Students may opt to attend the classes held together with the Open Studies in Theology:
    - Each subject will have 5 classes each lasts for 2 hours;
    - There will be 1 or 2 classes per week, on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  4. Students are requested to submit their assignment within 12 weeks after the subject starts.

Length of Study and Assessment:

  1. This is a 4-year programme in two phases. The first phase is the Foundation class of 1 year and the second phase is the Advanced class of 3 years.
  2. Students are required to submit an assignment (in Chinese) for each subject within 12 weeks after the subject starts. Only when the assignment passes the assessment will the subject be regarded as completed. The College will provide self-learning materials (in Chinese) and tutorial to assist students in completing the assignment. Students may also opt to attend the classroom lectures held together with the Open Studies in Theology for further aid in learning.
  3. For Advanced class, students after completing all subjects have to attend a final examination (in oral). Students passing the examination will obtain the Diploma in Theology. For students completing only the Foundation class, they may apply for a completion certificate.
  4. Students can join the full programme (4 year) or only the Foundation class (1 year). Diploma will be issued only when all subjects of the full programme are completed and requirements abovementioned met.

Entrance Requirements:

  1. Admission to the Diploma programme is open to all Catholics who are marked by their moral conduct.
  2. All applicants must have completed the Secondary School education in HK or possess equivalent academic qualifications.
  3. Proficiency in Chinese is essential (as the course is conducted in Chinese).
  4. Any exception to the norm above will be made by the Admissions Committee set up by the Director of the Theology Division.

     2. Admission interview may be required. The Secretariat will inform the applicants of the admission result by letter.
         Applicants who are admitted will then proceed to the registration.
